- DAYSTAR SHIPS 4 ACCELERATORS FOR MACINTOSH IIcx
-
- Flowery Branch, GA - November 1, 1989
- DayStar Digital, Inc. is now shipping the first and fastest accelerator boards
- for the popular Macintosh IIcx. The DayStar Accelerator IIcx is based on the
- Motorola 68030 CPU running with zero wait-states and comes in four speeds; 25
- MHz, 33 MHz, 40 MHz and 50 MHz. Wait-states are eliminated by the
- incorporation of a 32K two-way set associative cache employing 25 nanosecond
- static RAM. This cache architecture is more typically employed in mainframe
- systems and serves to optimize CPU performance. DayStar offers an optional
- Motorola 68882 Math Coprocessor to speed up mathematical computations as much
- as 600%. The Accelerator IIcx is fully compatible with standard Macintosh
- hardware and software, including A/UX.
-
- “With the introduction of the four Accelerator IIcx boards DayStar has rounded
- out its best selling line of accelerators for the Macintosh II family.” said
- Andrew Lewis, DayStar’s president. “Now we offer a truly complete product
- line. Whether a user has a Mac II, IIx, IIcx or IIci, DayStar can
- significantly increase system performance, as much as 340%.”
-
- The accelerator IIcx includes DayStar’s XCI backplane. XCI is an acronym for
- the Extended CPU Interface developed by DayStar. It is a high speed bus that
- works as an alternative to the Mac’s slow 10 MHz NuBus, affording users the
- flexibility to further improve system performance. During the fourth quarter
- DayStar will begin shipment of XCI boards for Video, RAM and SCSI acceleration.
- XCI boards will be dual-ported to run either over NuBus or over DayStar’s XCI
- backplane. XCI boards run at CPU clock speeds, allowing them to perform up to
- four times faster than standard NuBus boards.

- The advantages of faster processing speeds extend beyond merely increasing
- productivity. With more time and less frustration from slow system response
- users find that work quality and sophistication improves significantly.
-
- DayStar’s goal is to rapidly integrate new technologies into useful products
- that enhance Macintosh system performance. The company is dedicated to meeting
- customer needs through rapid development of proprietary technology, top quality
- design and manufacture, and through accessible and competent customer service
- and support. DayStar Digital, Inc., is headquartered in Flowery Branch, GA, 30
- minutes north of Atlanta.
-
- In addition to its high-speed Mac II family accelerators DayStar also
- manufactures the Fast Cache IIci, a cache memory board that delivers up to a
- 40% processing speed increase for the Macintosh IIci. For connectivity
- solutions, DayStar manufactures the LT200 LocalTalk Interface boards for the PC
- and the Micro Channel PS/2, which allow these machines to connect into Apple's
- LocalTalk network.
